Q: What do I have to do to compete for UMATA
points?
A: Anyone receiving a
tournament invitation can compete at a
UMATA tournament and earn points toward being a year end grand champion.
However, invitations may be revoked with no cause, as the tournament
director deems necessary.
Q: What is the judge certification and why do we have it? A: The judge certification a 2 to 3 hour training provided by one of our certified judge trainers. The training covers judging different types of kata, weapons, as well as sparring. We developed the judge certification for the purpose of providing systematic judging at all events.

Q: How can my child or student become a grand champion? A: UMATA offers year end grand champions only. These awards are earned by the highest point scorer in individual rank and age divisions. Individual tournament directors also offer grand champions for their events. These grand champions are awarded for different reasons and in different ways. UMATA does not monitor or regulate the manner in which individual events award grand champions.
Q: How does and event become sanctioned by UMATA? A: If you are a interested in hosting a UMATA sanctioned event please contact Jason Wilcox or John Malone to discuss this matter.
Q: Does UMATA only sanction or promote tournaments? A: No. We also endorse and promote seminars, work-outs, and other functions held by UMATA supporters. Pleas contact us with your information for approval and we will post your event on our website.
